Alaska Labor Law Board

The Alaska Labor Law Board is run by director Grey Mitchell. It is the portion of the government that is responsible for administering and enforcing all labor laws in the state of Alaska. It is divided into four different areas each with their own responsibilities in regards to labor laws.
The wage and hour administration section has multiple responsibilities. Some of these include but are not limited to; wage claims, child labor enforcement and prevailing wage enforcement. This means that this part of the labor board makes sure that minor workers are not exploited. It also enforces the Alaska Family Leave Act. The mechanical inspection section does pretty much just what it is titled. The primary responsibilities include the inspection of amusement rides and boilers. It also certifies electrical and plumbing inspectors as well as performing these duties themselves. There is the Occupational Safety and Health Section which is also known as OSHA. This is the portion of the Labor Board that is responsible for overseeing the safety of the workplace environment. They are also responsible for the certification of asbestos removal and explosives handlers. There is also the Alaska Safety Advisory Council which is responsible for the promotion of health and safety in the workplace.
In Alaska the current minimum wage is at $7.15 per hour. Overtime at the rate of one and one half times the regular wage is earned in the state of Alaska if you work more than 40 hours in one work week. There are of course exceptions to this rule as with any rule. There are of course many rules regarding minors in Alaska some of which may apply to you. These rules become more stringent the younger you get. No one under the age of 14 may hold down standard occupations in the state. However the laws become less restrictive as you age as far as what kind of occupation you can hold.
