July 29th, 2006 Posted by KimberlyIn the state of Arkansas, the labor law board as set the minimum wage is $5.15 per hour. This is what all employees must pay you to work no matter what the age or position as a minimum. There are two exceptions to this rule however, and that is for tipped employees where the minimum wage is $2.13 per hour. As far as overtime goes for employees in Arkansas you are to be paid one and one half times your regular salary per hour if you are to work over 40 hours in one week. That is only for the hours over 40 though.
In Arkansas the Labor Board is responsible for every aspect of labor law enforcement and interpretation for the state. This includes safety of all aspects for you the worker. This even includes the safety of amusement park rides. The labor board is also responsible for helping in the recovery of lost wages as well as the direction of the unemployment offices throughout the state. They also conduct inspections on elevators and boilers to make sure that you have a safe work environment. In the state of Arkansas there is no requirement for a meal break for anyone who is over the age of 18. This means that that one does not have to be offered to you. However there are laws in regards to persons under the age of 18 and the types of breaks and hours that they are required to give and that the employee must take. In the state of Arkansas as far as access to your personnel file it is only required to be given of you are a government employee. So there is not a requirement to provide it to you even if you ask. The Arkansas Labor Law Board makes and enforces these laws.

If a person has to go to work site for a meeting on their day off… How are they to be paid…
Posted by: Amelia
Hi Marian! Mandatory meetings are paid work time under both federal and Arkansas law. So if the meeting lasts one hour, the employee must be paid for that hour. If it lasts two hours, the employee must be paid for two hours. Most employers handle this by simply having the employee clock in and out for the meeting. As long as the meeting is held at the employee’s usual work site, there is no requirement that the employer pay travel time. Different rules apply if the meeting is held offsite. HTH, and thanks for reading the blogs!~ Amelia

Are there any rules or laws to protect an employee from an employer who has cused, scream & hollered at the employee in front of others???? is there any rule for unemployment benefits in this situation????
Thanks.

Hi shelly! Unfortunately, no, there is no law that prevents an employer from screaming or cussing at employees, even in front of others. It is very poor management, but it is legal. If the abuse was illegal discrimination, and it was extreme, the employee could quit and qualify for unemployment. But if this employer screams at everyone, it is not illegal discrimination. Sorry, wish we could offer more help. Thanks for reading the blogs!~ Amelia
