“Protecting Lives and Promoting the Prosperity of Workers, Consumers and Industry” Such is the philosophy of the West Virginia Department of Labor or as it is otherwise known the Division of Labor. So much responsibility rests on this one office.

They are responsible for investigating complaints made by workers regarding their pay or their benefits. They verify licenses of contractors at job sites and make certain that if those licenses are not in order that the job site is shut down until such time. They also work with contractors to help them get the licenses that they need. They inspect elevators and amusement park rides to ensure the safety of West Virginians. They also certify the measuring and weighing devices used in public such as gas pumps and other scales used in the community. The division of labor in West Virginia offers a health and safety program to employers free of charge to minimize the risk and occurrence of injury to workers and even pedestrians on the job.

Employers

Employees

Employees will benefit from knowing what they are entitled to. The division of labor makes sure that this information is readily available to them. Information on minimum wage and maximum hour laws are available to anyone who would like the information. Information for employees about how and when payments must be made is available in the West Virginia Wage Payment and Collection Act. Also information on child labor laws and how to go about getting assistance is available for employees.

Consumers

The division of labor in West Virginia even makes certain that consumers are included in their venture to ensure the rights of the citizens.
