Hawaii Department of Labor

The Hawaii Department of Labor and Industrial Relations (DLIR) have recently revolutionized the way that they do business. Launching a program they call “Hana Lokahi” which means “working together” the department has realized that the best and most effective way to meet the needs of both the businesses and the employees in Hawaii is not to work against each other, but instead work together to make both parties happy. In doing this they have put a great deal of effort towards eliminating regulations and/or policies that will hinder the working relationship between employees and businesses or even slow the growth of business in Hawaii.

The Hawaii Department of Labor and Industrial Relations hold a big responsibility to the people of Hawaii. They are responsible for protecting the rights of the worker through a safe work environment, providing workers compensation to those injured workers, and ensuring wages and leave is appropriate. They also take it upon themselves to help those workers who are experiencing times of financial hardships, by providing programs like Hire Net in which Hawaii residents can go online to find hundreds of job listings in Hawaii as well as unemployment insurance for those who have been laid off from work. The Hawaii DLIR wants each and every person in Hawaii to have a successful job experience and it is apparent from my research that they really are making a huge effort to make this happen.

It is every employee’s and employer’s responsibility to make sure that they are up to date on their rights and responsibilities in the work place. You can visit the Hawaii Department of Labor and Industrial Relations for any questions that you might have or general information you might seek about laws and regulations in the work place.
