Hawaii (HI) Minimum Wage Posters

August 16th, 2006 Posted by Amelia

Many states are now checking their minimum wages to see if they need to be increased or calculated with the Cost of Living Index. Other states however simply use the federal minimum wage. Hawaii has its own minimum wage and I’d like to take a closer look at them today.

First let’s begin with the Hawaii Minimum Wage Posters. In Hawaii it is a law that employers post the minimum wage poster where employees can see and read it. It must be accessible at all times.

Minimum Wage: Hawaii’s minimum wage poster lists their minimum working wages as follows: $6.25 per hour effective January 1, 2003 to December 31, 2005.

$6.75 per hour effective January 1, 2006 to December 31, 2006. And $7.25 per hour effective January 1, 2007.

Minimum wage under the Hawaii Wage and Hour Law also applies to employment that is covered by the federal Wage and Hour Law (The Fair Labor Standards Act). This law also requires Hawaii employers to maintain time records.

Tip Credit: Hawaii’s minimum wage poster indicates that under certain conditions certain employees who are paid “tips” may be paid 25 cents less per hour than the minimum hourly wage.

The Hawaii state poster includes: HIOSH Notice, Payment of Wages, Unemployment Insurance, Minimum Wage, Worker’s Compensation, Whistleblower Protection Poster.

Along with the Hawaii Minimum Wage Posters the federal Labor Laws Posters must be displayed also.

By posting the above mandated posters your employees will be notified of the labor laws in Hawaii plus helping them to understand their workplace rights better. In addition you will be in full compliance with the federal and Hawaii Labor Law which mandates the posting of the posters.

Informing and assisting your employees in understanding the Hawaii and federal Labor Laws is your responsibility as an employer in Hawaii. This is of mutual benefit to both you the employer and the employees as it will lessen the change of misunderstandings and miscommunications.
