In our state, one of the key departments of our government that plays a role in our everyday life is that of the Massachusetts (MA) Department of Human Resources. This governmental agency is one that affects us all based on the fact that it monitors and makes regulations for the work force within the state. Yet, they also provide a great deal of information and other reasons for us as well. Although we may not realize it, they are an agency that can provide us with the necessary help that we need.

One way in which the Massachusetts Department of Human Resources provides for those that live here is through monitoring the unemployment rate. They do this by monitoring the number of people that have applied for or are getting unemployment assistance within the state. To help us to see what is happening, we can track the changes in employment over time. For example, in the middle of 2003, the unemployment rate was at 5.9 percent, one of the highest in the country. As of July of 2006, the unemployment rate has fallen to 5 percent, which is still just slightly above the national level of 4.8 percent.

This change has happened for a number of reasons. For one, the Massachusetts Department of Human Resources has had 1.2739 billion dollars in funds pumped into it to help in aiding the programs of Job Training and Dislocated Worker Funds. These programs have helped to train and education those that are looking for work throughout the state. In addition, One Stop Career Centers is another program in place that can aid those that are unemployed to find the work that they need. In addition to this, the state has seen a growth of 55,700 jobs within the state since January of 2001. All of these things play a key role in how our work force is and how our economy is as well.
