In Utah (UT) there are many employees and employers that need the assistance and the guidance of the Department of Human Resources. This department helps all of us to maintain and achieve employment as well as protect our rights as both employer and employee. This department is responsible for all aspects of the labor world for our state. They work very hard at maintaining and achieving unemployment goals.

In Utah they have set very good goals as far as unemployment percentage is concerned. And have worked very hard to get these. In April of 2003 the unemployment rate was at 5.8%. The current rate is now at 3.4% which is incredible when you consider that the unemployment rate nationally stands at 4.8%. These are impressive numbers as a state and shows to others that it can be done. This was able to be achieved through the creation of over 120,000 new jobs in the past five years. This has gone a long way in bringing down the unemployment level as well as through the retraining of those that have become unemployed. Throughout the state there are unemployment stations that work to either retrain or place those that have become unemployed in order to get them back into the workforce and contributing to our society.

The department in Utah is also responsible for maintaining and establishing workplace safety guidelines in order to make the work environment safe and secure. This department is also responsible for the maintaining of the unemployment and worker’s compensation benefits that are received through the state. It is also through this area that all laws are created, maintained and enforced. This is particularly important for those employees that are minors in the state. These laws help protect minors as well as adult employees in the state as well.
