Washington Child Labor Law Posters

When it comes to the child labor laws in the state of Washington, I didn’t find much new or unusual. All of the laws I read through cover all the basic ground: Work permit, hours a minor is allowed to work, and what jobs they can be hired to do. All of this information can be located on the Washington Child Labor Law Posters. When an employer has teens working at a business, he or she must display the Washington Child Labor Law Posters somewhere conspicuous.

The first thing an employer must do if they want to hire a minor is get a work permit. It must be endorsed for each work location that a minor works. They must also keep on file something that proves the minor’s age. This can be accomplished with a birth certificate, driver’s license, or even a notarized statement. Along with that proof, the employer must have the minor’s name, address, date of birth, SS card copy and an employment description.

I found that minors are treated equally when it comes to minimum wage, so long as they are 16 or older. When you have reached the age of 16, you get the same minimum wage as adults. Minors under the age of 16 can be paid only 85% of minimum, though.

When you are 14 or 15 years, a 30 minute, uninterrupted break must be given for every 4 hours worked. This is a meal break, and must be giving in addition to normal rest breaks. When you are 16 or 17 years, you get that same 30 minutes, but only after working more than 5 hours a day. How many hours and between what hours the minor can work are rather extensive and vary throughout the year.

I located a list about all the jobs that minors cannot hold in the state of Washington. They follow many other states, as these laws prohibit minors from working in hazardous jobs. Some of those jobs include, but are not limited to, firefighting, mining, logging, handling explosives and many more.

I hope you have found this information on the Washington Child Labor Laws helpful. If you want more detailed information than the items above, just check out the Washington Child Labor Laws Posters or the Washington Complete Labor Law Poster.
