Did you know that there are safety posters available for your worksite? Employees need to know that their workplace is safe and the safety posters you place all around the worksite make it so.

Rights and responsibilities of employees and employers are outlined on the safety posters. Those regulations include:

• You have the right to notify your employer or OSHA about workplace hazards. You may ask OSHA to keep your name confidential.
• You have the right to request an OSHA inspection if you believe that there are unsafe and unhealthful conditions in your workplace. You or your representative may participate in the inspection.
• You can file a complaint with OSHA within 30 days of discrimination by your employer for making safety and health complaints or for exercising your rights under the OSH Act.
• You have a right to see OSHA citations issued to your employer. Your employer must post the citations at or near the place of the alleged violation.
• Your employer must correct workplace hazards by the date indicated on the citation and must certify that these hazards have been reduced or eliminated.
• You have the right to copies of your medical records or records of your exposure to toxic and harmful substances or conditions.

Any safety posters used at work must be posed in a conspicuous place where employees can see it. Maintaining a safe workplace is challenging and a safety poster makes it easier for an employer to achieve that result.

All 50 states are legally bound to provide a safe workplace. This also includes Puerto Rico, the District of Columbia. So it doesn’t matter what state you live in – you are covered.

If you are injured at work and feel the injury was caused by an unsafe working condition, then you are entitled to request an inspection of the workplace per OSHA regulations. No employee should feel unsafe when they work.
