Equal Employment Opportunity Poster
September 14th, 2006 Posted by JolieI just wanted to touch base and talk a little bit about the Equal Employment Opportunity Poster. Every employee that is covered by non-discrimination and
EEO laws is required to post and Equal Employment Opportunity Poster. The poster must be current, and it also must be displayed in a prominent area that is easily visible to both employees and applicants. Many companies choose to post their Equal Employment Opportunity Poster in a break room, lunch room, or other area where employees frequently congregate.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Poster makes both employers and employees aware that laws prohibit discrimination based on age, race, color, religion, sex, natural origin, or disability. EEOC laws basically comprise three acts. The Civil Rights Act prohibits discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. The Age Discrimination in Employment Act prohibits discrimination toward workers 40 years old and older. The Americans with Disabilities Act prohibits discrimination because of a worker’s disability.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Poster makes both employers and workers aware that discrimination is illegal. There are basically two agencies that deal with EEOC enforcement. The Civil Rights Center oversees EEO laws in programs and activities receiving federal financial assistance, as well as ensuring equal opportunity for all employees and applicants to the U.S. Labor Department. The other agency that deals with EEO enforcement is the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which oversees and enforces EEO laws for most private, state, and local governments, educational institutions, employment agencies, and labor organizations.
Remember to keep your Equal Employment Opportunity Poster current. A compliance poster service can ensure that your posters are up to date.
I’ll keep you updated if I hear of any changes regarding the Equal Employment Opportunity Poster. In the meantime, thanks for reading!
