CO Labor Laws

Finding the Colorado (CO) Labor Laws was quite easy to do. They can be found on the internet, but they can also be found on posters in Colorado workplaces. These CO Labor Law posters are required to be placed in the business in an area where employees have access them. That is why many of the employers in Colorado hang these posters in conspicuous places like the work area, break room or around the time clock.

The easiest of the CO Labor Laws to find was the minimum wage law. In this state, the minimum wage is $5.15 per hour. This rate of pay is required for any adult or emancipated minor, no matter whether they are working as needed or hourly.

Overtime pay is another thing which is determined by the CO Labor Laws. All employers are required to pay employees time and a half if they work more than 40 hours in any work week or over 12 hours in any work day. There are different ways which this can be calculated and whatever way benefits the employee most is the method which should be used.

Rest periods and meal periods are also regulated by CO Labor Laws. When an employee works for 4 consecutive hours, he or she is entitled to a 10 minute, paid break. When an employee works for 5 consecutive hours, he or she is entitled to a 30 minute, unpaid meal break. When the 30 minute break is not possible, it is allowed that the break be taken “on-duty”, with the employee being compensated the entire time.

This is only a very limited view of the labor laws for the state of Colorado. There are many other labor laws, like child labor laws, rules dealing with work uniforms, and many more. You can find all of the CO Labor Laws on various posters. If you wish to have the mandatory federal and state labor law posters in one, look for the Colorado Complete Labor Law Poster
