CT Labor Laws
September 16th, 2006 Posted by JaredThe Connecticut (CT) Labor Laws were rather easy to find, as were the CT Labor Law posters. There are several CT Labor Laws that are required to be displayed on posters in every workplace in Connecticut. Employers normally hang these CT Labor Laws on posters in conspicuous places in their business, such as the employee break room, work areas, and even around the time clock. These laws are similar to all the other states’ labor laws.
The first CT Labor Law I found deals with Sexual Harassment. It is, of course, illegal due to the Connecticut Discrimination Employment Practices Act. Examples of sexual harassment include, but are not limited to, unwelcome sexual advances, unwanted hugs, kisses, or touches, requesting sexual favors, lewd comments, and retaliation due to reporting sexual harassment. Anyone found to be guilty of sexual harassment will be criminally and civilly liable for their actions.
The next CT Labor Laws I found deal with the minimum wage and overtime pay. The minimum wage in CT has steadily been increasing since 2003! It went from $6.40 to $7.10 to $7.40 and will increase to $7.65 on January 1, 2007. Overtime pay at the rate of one and one half times is also required when an employee works over the normal 40 hour work week.
There is also the Employee Polygraph Protection Act, which comes down from the federal government. In the state of Connecticut, no employer may use a lie detector test as part of pre-employment screening or during the time an employee works for the company. There are very limited exceptions to this act.
I hope you have found this brief overview of the CT Labor Laws helpful. If you require additional information, you should check out the required postings of the CT Labor Laws. When you are interested in labor laws at both the state and federal level, you should look for the Connecticut Complete Labor Law Poster.
