MS Labor Laws

September 17th, 2006 Posted by Jared

I got online today to find some of the states’ labor laws. I didn’t have any trouble finding the Mississippi (MS) Labor Laws. There are many of them, but the state actually uses several of the federal labor laws. However, the other MS labor laws I found are very similar to those in the other states. Some of the MS labor laws are required to be displayed in the work place. If required, they are placed on a Mississippi Labor Law Poster and hung in a conspicuous area of the business. Since employees are supposed to have access to the MS labor laws, employers often hang these posters on the wall around the time clock or even in the employee break area.

The first of the MS labor laws I found deals with Job Insurance for Employees. Basically, when this poster is found in the work place, the employees who work there are covered by unemployment insurance. This means that employees can receive benefits if they become unemployed through no fault of their own. What is nice about this coverage is that the average employee is not paying for these benefits out of their checks, but the business is actually covering this service.

MS labor laws also include a workers’ compensation law. If an employee in Mississippi is ever injured on the job, he or she has to inform his or her immediate supervisor and he or she will get medical bills covered.

Many of the other labor laws in effect in the state, such as minimum wage, family leave, overtime pay, and others are the same as the labor laws created by the federal government.

I hope that this brief overview of the MS labor laws was helpful to you. If you need to know about the specific MS labor laws, try to find some of the Mississippi Labor Law Posters. When you want both federal and state labor laws, it may be advantageous to look for the Mississippi Complete Labor Law Poster.
