TX Labor Laws

September 19th, 2006 Posted by Jared

While browsing on the internet today, I came across the Texas (TX) labor laws. They really weren’t difficult to find. Most of them follow along with the federal labor laws, but there are a few which come down from the state level.

Many different TX labor laws are required to be posted somewhere in all Texas work places. These publications are called the Texas labor law posters and need to be hung in conspicuous areas with easy access. Employers put these posters around the walls in the time clock room and sometimes in the break area. So long as employees can find and read the posters easily, all is good.

The first of the TX labor laws I found is called the EEO (Equal Employment Opportunity) law. This law deals with discrimination. When it comes to the EEO law, employers, employment agencies and labor unions are prohibited from denying opportunities to individuals based on their race, color, gender, age or disability.

The next TX labor laws I found deal with various aspects of paydays in the state. Those employees that are covered by FLSA must be paid at least once a month. All other employers must set up semi-monthly paydays with as close to equal days between each payday as possible.

Some of the most detailed TX labor laws deal with child labor. When it comes to minors in the state, it is expected they will be safe when they take a job. So, to that end, there are many jobs which are restricted to minors due to their hazardous nature. Other laws limit the hours a minor can work and what the minimum age of a minor worker will be.

These are just a few of the TX labor laws. Feel free to find copies of the Texas labor law posters to get more information. The Texas Complete Labor Law Poster might also be a useful publication to have handy.
