Utah (UT) Minimum Wage Posters

Like most of the rest of the United States, and its territories, Utah uses the Federal minimum wage for non-exempt employees. The Federal minimum wage posters clearly show the current minimum wage of $5.15 for each hour worked. In addition to this wage, a premium of one and one-half times this rate is paid for overtime worked (over 40 hours in one week).

Though the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) first defined the minimum wage back in 1938, it is the responsibility of the Congress of the United States for increasing the minimum wage by passing bill that is then signed into law by the President. There are complex rules which govern employment under a variety of definitions. For instance, tipped employees are only required to be paid $2.13 an hour; however, an employee’s tips in combination with the $2.13 an hour do not equal the federal minimum hourly wage, then the employer will need to supplement this wage.

The FLSA applies to employees who has been in business at least a year and who exceed $500,000 in revenue. However, smaller firms may also have to comply if they have employees who work in transportation or interstate communications businesses; it’s the employer’s responsibility to make sure that they are following the current rules and regulations. Federal, state or local government agencies, hospitals and schools, and often domestic workers, are also covered by the Federal minimum wage law.

The rules governing these special classes of employees can be very complex and hard to understand. A number of special exceptions include full-time students and qualified disabled workers. Laws regarding wage-related rights and responsibilities are designed to protect employees from being underpaid. If you think that you may have been treated unfairly or you are an employer who is uncertain of the laws, you may want to contact the either the US or Utah Department of Labor. The Utah Minimum Wage Posters must be clearly visible by all employees and posted in a central location.
