VA Labor Laws

While searching on the internet today, I came across the Virginia (VA) labor laws. There are quite a few of them, but all are quite similar to the labor laws in the other states.

When it comes to VA labor laws, there are several which are required to be posted in the work place. These laws are made into something called the VA labor law posters and they need to be placed in a conspicuous place somewhere in the business. Employees should have easy access to these publications, so employers often put them where employees are known to congregate: around the time clock and in the break room.

The first VA labor law I found deals with workers’ compensation. When a worker is injured or contracts an illness on the job, they are eligible to have their medical bills covered by workers’ compensation. The one catch to this labor law is that the injured worker must notify their supervisor immediately or chance forfeiting the benefits.

The next of the VA labor laws I see deals with unemployment insurance. Most workers think they pay for this, but in reality they do not. Employers pay into the unemployment insurance. When someone who is able to work is unemployed for any reason, they may be eligible to get coverage because of this VA labor law.

Last are the child labor laws. In Virginia, there are many child labor laws on the books. These determine the minimum age a minor may work, the days and hours which they can work, how many hours they can work per day and per week, and which jobs they are allowed to fill. One of the major VA child labor laws restricts the jobs which I minor can hold. When a job is considered to be “hazardous”, a minor normally may not fill that position.
