WV laws which apply to employment regulation help establish a standard for all employees and employers. These laws are made available for everyone in West Virginia to see.

Some WV laws include provisions for safety. For instance, elevators and amusement rides must be operating safely. In addition, weighing and measuring devices must be certified, including gas pumps and grocery store scales.

WV laws also include regulations regarding the payment of wages. For example, most employers are required to pay their employees by negotiable check (or other legal form of U.S. payment) at least once every two weeks. Additional provisions are made regarding wage payments as well. For instance, if an employee agrees to pay sick to an employee leave upon termination they must follow through with that agreement.

Other WV laws have established what is right and fair for both men and women workers. For instance, the same wages must be paid to both male and female employees for worked performed that requires similar skills and abilities. The exception to this is in the case of seniority or merit, which is often a factor which helps determine employee’s wages.

WV laws also establish the guidelines for obtaining unemployment compensation. Those employees who are eligible for unemployment compensation are those that have lost their jobs due to know fault of their own. In addition, those employees who receive weekly benefits may still receive them and earn up to $60 per week. Any amount worked above $60 per week is deducted from the weekly benefit amount.

Additional provisions are made within WV laws that pertain to employment as well. It is important for both employers and employees to keep up with all of these current laws, which explain various rights and responsibilities. These laws are usually required to be posted on jobs sites.
