While Puerto Rico is not a state in the US, it is a US territory and employers there are required to post Puerto Rico posters in all workplaces. There have been many changes and updates on the Puerto Rico posters (such as the recent opening of the EEOC office in San Juan), so it’s important for all employers to make sure they have the most updated posters for their employees. Furthermore, the Puerto Rico posters need to be placed in an area where all employees have easy access to the information such as an employee break room, work room or any other place where employees gather on a regular basis.

It’s important to have these Puerto Rico posters available for both the employees and the employer. Many employees use the posters as their main source to find out information about their rights and responsibilities within the workplace. They posters also provide information to the employees on how to file claims if their rights have been violated. This information includes which agencies they need to contact for help. Employers also benefit from these posters because they can use them to make sure they are upholding the federal laws applicable to them as well as their employee’s rights.

Puerto Rico is subject to the same federal laws the rest of the states are subject to and these laws need to be posted the Puerto Rico posters. The laws that need to be posted are USERRA – Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act, Equal Employment Opportunity is the Law, Federal Minimum Wage, Employee Polygraph Protection Act, Family and Medical Leave Act and OSHA – Job Safety and Health Protection.

Since the laws change frequently, employers in Puerto Rico need to make sure their labor and employment law posters are current. There’s no better time than now to do so.
