Kansas Minimum Wage Survey

According to a Kansas minimum wage survey released recently by the Kansas Dept. of Labor, most workers want to get the best wages possible. Also, most businesses want to offer reasonable wages that will help them attract and keep qualified employees.

The survey provides current salary levels on more than 600 occupations for Kansas, divided into 6 areas within the state. The survey shows that RNs in Kansas have an average wage of $22.59 per hour. In last year’s survey, the average wage for RNs was $21.44 per hour, amounting to an increase of 5 percent over the year.

The survey also showed that while RNs have an average hourly wage of $25.60 per hour in the Kansas City area, the rate is just $22.70 in Lawrence and $20.36 in outlying areas of the state.

The survey also shows significant changes in the wages of tractor-trailer rigs in the state. In 2005, the average wage was $15.52, compared to an average wage of $16.53 per hour in 2006. This is an increase of 6% over the year.

The recently released 2006 edition of the Kansas Wage Survey helps workers and businesses answer their wage-related questions. The Kansas Department of Labor surveyed over 5,000 Kansas employers to garner updated information on average wages in Kansas.

“The Kansas Wage Survey is a valuable resource that can help businesses and workers,” said Jim Garner, Kansas Secretary of Labor. “Companies can determine the right salary for a job opening and workers can find out what they should expect to make in their area of the state.”

The Kansas minimum wage survey includes information on wages in 2006. Both employers and employees can gain valuable information from the survey. It can be important to a person considering an in-state move who wants to find the potential salary ranges for their occupation in Kansas. It also can benefit expanding companies or companies who are actively recruiting in Kansas.
