West Virginia Minimum Wage Poster
January 18th, 2007 Posted by AmeliaIf you’re a West Virginia employer, it’s time to start thinking about new federal and West Virginia minimum wage posters. In fact, with all the changes ahead in the federal and West Virginia minimum wage rates, you’re going to be updating labor law posters regularly for the next 3 years.
First off, an increase in the federal minimum wage is imminent. Sixty days after the bill currently being debated in Congress is passed and signed by the President, the federal minimum wage will increase. It will increase again a year later, and still again a year after that.
Each time the federal minimum wage increases, every employer will need to update their federal minimum wage posters. As I’m sure you know, these posters must be prominently displayed in an area accessible to employees. Not displaying the posters, or displaying outdated posters, is a violation of federal and state law. Even if all your employees earn more than the minimum wage, you must display updated posters. So you’ll be changing federal posters 3 times in 26 months.
But those are just the changes to the federal posters.
The West Virginia minimum wage poster will also change each time the state minimum wage increases. At this time, the state minimum wage is slated to increase in July 2007 and July 2008. So, you’ll need to update those posters as well.
Any new federal minimum wage is likely to involve a 3-step increase spaced over 26 months. First, the current minimum wage of $5.15 will be increased 70 cents 60 days after the bill is signed. The next increase will occur one year later, when the rate will be increased another 70 cents to $6.55. Finally, a year after that increase, the last of the 3 steps will go into effect. This is likely to include another 70-cent increase to a federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour. This is the best information available at this time, and if it changes, I’ll be sure to let you know.
