Connecticut Employment News
January 26th, 2007 Posted by AmeliaThe state Department of Labor is planning a number of Connecticut employment workshops in the month of February. All of the workshops will be held at the Danbury CTWorks Center, and better yet, they’re all free.
The February Connecticut employment workshops include an orientation for newcomers, a workshop to access transferable skills, and two resume clinics. In addition, there will be a special workshop focusing on the needs of workers who are over 40. Another workshop will cover interview techniques for job hunters of all ages. A job networking group meets regularly.
The first workshop is the Info Session for Newcomers, planned for February 1, February 6, February 13, February 20, February 22 and February 27. This is a 3 hour information session designed for those who have recently become unemployed or launched a job search. This session is a pre-requisite for all other workshops. It includes an orientation to the Career Resource Center and an overview of the job resources available. Attendees will also learn about the state labor market and training opportunities available through the Connecticut Dept. of Employment. The workshop is free, and begins at 9:30 am on February 1 and February 22. The other workshops begin at 1:00 pm.
The second Connecticut employment workshop slated for February is the Transferable Skills Assessment. This workshop will help participants identify the skills that they bring to the workplace, which can be used in a number of different industries and jobs. Workshop participants will come away with a broad range of employment possibilities. The session also explores selling a new boss on your skills, rather than your past work experience. The workshop is free, and begins at 9:00 am on February 6.
The very popular Computer for Beginners workshop will also be offered in February. This session always fills up fast, so be sure to call and make a reservation. Topics covered include hardware, software and the operation process, including how to start up and shut down the computer. The workshop is free and schedule to begin at 9:30 am on February 6.
