Connecticut Job News
January 26th, 2007 Posted by AmeliaThe Career Express program continues to provide mobile Workforce Services to veterans and students across the state, in recent Connecticut job news. During the first two weeks in January, Connecticut Dept. of Labor employees aboard the Career Express, an adapted RV, were on the road.
The Career Express participated in Job Search and Job Outlook workshops at Shelton High School. A Resume Writing Workshop was held at Rockville High School. Basic Computer Training was conducted at the Connecticut Dept. of Veterans Affairs in Rocky Hill. The Career Express will also be on hand on January 30 for the Heroes 4 Hire Veterans Job Fair at Rentschler Field in East Hartford.
The Career Express is a specially retrofitted Winnebago with eight computer stations and Internet access. It features the latest in workforce and job skill development tools, provided by the Connecticut Department of Labor and its CTWorks partners. The mobile career center dazzles visitors with a plasma TV. It also has a SMART Board overlay for workshops, where an instructor can write on a desktop and have the work projected onto an overhead screen. The mobile unit also features a conference area where visitors can meet with career counselors, work with résumé writers or gain information from business service specialists.
On January 22, the Career Express made Connecticut job news by visiting a Hartford Homeless Shelter. The mobile until allows the Connecticut Dept. of Labor to bring job search services to clients, rather than waiting for clients to visit a state agency. The service has been very successful in reaching out to Connecticut’s veterans, homeless and to students.
The Career Express facility makes it possible for the Connecticut Dept. of Labor and CTWorks to take a number of services on the road. Some of those popular services include workshops on basic computer use, resume writing, career networking, interview skills, and job search skills. Computer courses such as basic word processing and Internet job search tools are especially popular. A new program for workers who are over 40 has recently been introduced.
