Minnesota News on OSHA Labor Laws, A Third Law

January 26th, 2007 Posted by Mark

As we were saying, the Minnesota state legislator just passed a bunch of laws that employers should know about, and more so because the governor of the state, Tim Pawlenty, signed all of the bills into law. The last two bills we looked at were changes to the way that the state does its Workplace Accident and Injury Reduction programs, and which companies are required to have one according to the latest Minnesota Occupational Safety Health Administration labor laws.

The other Minnesota OSHA labor law change had to do with the crane operator requirements that we talked about. Basically, crane operators using cranes with lifting capacity greater than five tons are required to now have certifications to work on site with there cranes.

OK, enough review. Now let’s get to the new stuff. The one major change to the labor laws for the Occupational Safety Health Administration comes with House Bill 225. This new law will have an indirect effect on how the Minnesota Occupational Safety Health Administration does limits on the number of copies that other companies can get from it without charges.

If you do business with the Minnesota Occupational Safety Health Administration frequently, and have them print you up and mail copies of documents to you, this could affect how you do business with the Minnesota Occupational Safety Health Administration in the future. The new law will now require that the Minnesota Occupational Safety Health Administration charge 25 cents per page for copies for the first 100 pages requested by an employer.

This law doesn’t just hold true for the Minnesota Occupational Safety Health Administration actually; it also counts for basically any agency in the entire state government, so if you are asking for document copies from any state agency, expect the rate to change for those copies. Before, the agencies were allowed to charge the actual cost for the copies, which could have been cents on the dollar.
