Ohio OSHA
March 8th, 2007 Posted by AmeliaDid you ever fall and hurt yourself at work? Have you thought about why? It may surprise you, but it happens more often than you may realize. Safety in the workplace is extremely important for employees and for customers.
That’s why the Ohio OSHA recently released a new advisory on slips, trips and falls. People should make efforts to make sure that safety precautions are followed and all floors and work areas are free from hazard. If someone were to have a fatal accident, it could result in a lawsuit. The United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) can testify that people slipping and falling are the most common accidents that happen in the workplace.
The Ohio OSHA is raising employer awareness on the subject. A recent OSHA alert focuses on exactly that problem. Having posters that remind employees of the possibility of an accident, such a slip or a fall is one way companies are responding. It’s a very serious precaution that needs light shed on it. After all, 15% of accidental deaths happen because of a trip or fall. Motor vehicle accidents are the only type of accident that causes more deaths. Apparently, walking around a place of business is almost as dangerous as driving.
Cleaning all areas properly is absolutely crucial. If everyone works together to make sure debris and obstacles are cleared from walkways and aisles, they can actually lower the risks of an accident. Wet spots on the floor can sometimes be virtually invisible. Before you know it, someone could be seriously injured. Employees should waste no time in cleaning up spills. A ‘caution wet floor’ sign can go a long way if an area is slippery.
The OSHA is making strides to reduce the awful statistics of fatalities in the workplace. Try to do your part at your job to make sure that things are safe for you and others. If something falls on the floor, pick it up before someone trips on it. You may end up saving a life.
