Nevada Labor Leadership 1
March 21st, 2007 Posted by AmeliaWith all the changes on the labor scene, a noteworthy appointment in the Nevada labor leadership almost slipped by us. Recently, Governor Jim Gibbons announced the appointment of Mendy K. Elliott as Director of the Nevada Department of Business and Industry (B&I). Elliott replaces outgoing director Sydney Wickliffe.
According to Governor Gibbons, “Continuing to grow Nevada’s economy is one of my highest priorities, which is why I appointed Mendy Elliott to serve as Director of the Department of Business and Industry. As one of Nevada’s most respected and accomplished businesswomen, I am confident that her expertise and proven leadership will serve Nevadans well.” Gibbons, a Republican, replaced Governor Kenny Guinn, who was unable to run due to term limits. Guinn was also a Republican.
Mendy Elliott’s 30-year career in the financial services industry includes an impressive 24-year tenure with Wells Fargo, where she served as senior vice president and manager of the private banking team in Nevada. Before being named senior vice president, Elliott was head of Wells Fargo’s Nevada Community and Government Relations Department, where she supervised the bank’s government relations program.
As head of the Government Relations Department, Elliott also served as the primary liaison with the Nevada State Legislature and the Nevada system of Higher Education. This positions her perfectly to address issues within and outside of the state government.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve the people of this great state and I look forward to partnering with the business community and legislators to ensure our business climate remains vibrant and our economy remains one of the strongest in the nation,” said Mendy Elliott. “Beyond maintaining our strong economy and job creation, it is also critical that we work together to foster new economic growth and development for Nevada’s future prosperity.” Elliott has already assumed her new duties.
