Georgia Employment

The State Rehabilitation Council (SRC) for the Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) program of the Georgia Department of Labor will hold a series of 10 public hearings around the state to solicit input on Georgia employment opportunities for people with disabilities.

These statewide hearings focus on developing a plan for vocational rehabilitation services for the 2008 fiscal year. Public comment and participation is requested regarding substantive changes, additions or improvements in the delivery of the vocational rehabilitation services.

Hearings are currently scheduled for Atlanta, Columbus, Albany, Waycross, Savannah, Augusta, Macon, Athens, Suwanee and Rome.

The Albany hearing will take place on Tuesday, May 8 from 2 pm to 7 pm at Darton College. Public comments will also be accepted in Waycross from 2 pm to 6 pm on May 9, in the Educational Building Auditorium of Waycross College. The Savannah public hearing is scheduled for Thursday, may 10 from 11 am to 1 pm in the Auditorium of the Coastal Georgia Center. An additional hearing is scheduled for 4 pm to 7 pm on the same day, in the same place.

If you’d like to attend the Augusta hearing, it’s from 11 am to 4 pm at the Georgia Department of Labor’s Augusta Career Center on Greene Street.  In Macon, both mid-day and evening hearings are scheduled at the Georgia Dept. of Labor’s Macon Career Center on University Drive. The hours are from 10 am to 1 pm and from 4 pm to 7 pm.

The Athens hearing is scheduled for May 15 at the Athens Vocational Rehabilitation Regional Office from 10 am to 1 pm.  An evening session will also be conducted from 4 pm to 7 pm. In Suwanee, the hearing is from 1 pm to 6 pm in the Community Meeting Room of the Gwinnett County Public Library Suwanee branch.

The Rome meeting, scheduled for Thursday May 17, will be held from 10 am to 3 pm in the Coosa Room of the Rome-Floyd County Library. Finally, hearings in Atlanta are scheduled in the Floyd Room of the Sloppy Floyd Building from 10 am to 1 pm and again from 4 pm to 7 pm.
