Flooded Employers Get IRS Filing Extension

 The US Department of Labor, Employee Benefits Security Administration or EBSA has extended the filing deadlines for employer sin a number of states affected by severe weather. Employers should note that the extensions apply only to operations affected by the weather, in regions that have been declared disaster areas by President Bush. Other employers in the areas must file as usual.

 

The extensions apply to Form 5500 or Form 5500 EZ employer tax documents. Employers should check Part I on Form 5500 or Part 1 on Form 5500 EZ, and attach a statement.

 

The extensions affect plan administrators, employers and others who regularly file Form 5500.

 

Colorado employers affected by severe storms and tornadoes have until July 25, 2008 to file documents that were due between May 22 and July 24.

 

Maine employers affected by severe storms and flooding have until July 8 to file forms that are usually due between April 28 and July 7.

 

Employers in Georgia and Mississippi affected by severe storms, tornadoes and flooding have until July 28 to file forms usually due between April 4 and July 27.

 

Missouri employers affected by flooding, thunderstorms and tornadoes have until July 22 to file forms normally due between May 25 and July 21.

 

Indiana employers in Indiana affected by flooding, storms and tornadoes have until August 7 to file forms due between May 30 and August 6.

 

Wisconsin employers affected by sever weather in areas receiving FEMA assistance have until August 13 to file forms normally due between June 5 and August 12.

 

The extension for Arkansas employers is July 21, for forms normally due between May 2 and July 20.

 

Employers in Oklahoma have until July 14 to file forms due between May 10 and July 13.
