Free July Seminars on Updated Federal Laws
July 4th, 2008 Posted by AmeliaThe U. S. Department of Labor is sponsoring a series of free seminars on updated labor laws for employers in July 2008.
The Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) of the U.S. Department of Labor provides training to federal supply and service contractors and subcontractors. Topics covered include the agency’s equal employment opportunity laws and regulations. Federal contractors are subject to more stringent anti-discrimination regulations than other employers. In many cases, those regulations apply to all divisions of a company, not just those holding federal contracts. Most of the seminars are scheduled for a half day.
The Department of Labor takes a proactive approach in training employers, especially those with new federal contracts, in the requirements they face under the law.
The DOL has OFCCP Compliance Assistance Seminars scheduled for:
Minneapolis, MN July 8, 10, 22 & 24
Milwaukee, WI July 8, 10, 22 & 24
Indianapolis, IN July 9 & 23
Chicago, IL July 9 & 23
Columbus, OH July 10
Pittsburgh, PA July 10
Omaha, NE July 17
San Jose, CA July 22
Orange, CA July 30
San Diego, CA July 31
Special provisions of the DOL regulations apply to construction contractors working on projects that receive federal funding. The DOL has created a series of seminars especially for those employers. On July 18, a special OFCCP presentation specifically for Construction Contractors will be held in Richmond, Virginia. A similar workshop will be held in Chicago on July 16. Another workshop targeting the construction industry will be held in Columbus, Ohio on July 23.
The federal agency also offers a number of specialized workshops for employers. A workshop focusing on Internet Applications will be conducted by DOL officials in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on July 10. The seminar focuses on the requirements for maintaining HR records electronically. A workshop on scheduling a compliance audit with the OFCCP will be held in Baltimore, Maryland on July 24.
Employers interested in any of these seminars can register with the nearest US Department of Labor office, or at www.dol.gov.
