New Alabama Child Labor Rules Take Effect
September 5th, 2008 Posted by JolieThe Alabama Department of Labor recently took the opportunity to remind employers that with school in session, new regulations apply to those who employee workers under the age of 19.
The regulations take effect on the first day of school, so the date will be slightly different in various areas.
All minors under 18 must have work permits to be legally employed. Permits are issued at all city and county Boards of Education, and at many high schools in the state. Many private schools also issue permits.

Federal Child Labor Law Changes
August 14th, 2008 Posted by AmeliaOne aspect of the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008 or GINA that was overlooked by many employers strengthens the federal child labor laws.
The amendment to the Fair Labor Standards Act or FLSA allows the US Department of Labor to impose heftier fines when employers violate federal child labor laws.

New Connecticut Labor Laws
June 3rd, 2008 Posted by AmeliaEmployers should be aware of a number of laws that were passed in the 2008 Connecticut legislative session.
The State General Assembly passed bills regarding the regulation of professional service organizations, and House Bill 5113, which addresses employee misclassification.
Two important laws passed in 2008 concern Jury Duty and Child Labor. Another law makes display of nooses a felony.
In May, the Connecticut House passed a bill that reinstates the law permitting 15 year olds to work in grocery stores as baggers, stockers and cashiers. Governor M. Jodi Rell is expected to sign the bill soon. The bill, which amends Connecticut Statute 21-23 will become immediately effective.
