More Updated Federal Employment Regulations

Newly updated Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs regulations have raised a number of issues. Many employers are confused about the different roles of that agency and the EEOC or Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. That’s entirely understandable, because the roles of the two federal agencies often overlap.

 

The federal Office of Contract Compliance Programs handles non-discrimination and Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) programs for every company with federal contracts. This covers a wide variety of organizations from travel agencies and defense contractors to construction contractors engaged for building or highway projects that are wholly or partly federally funded.

By contrast, the more familiar EEOC or Equal Employment Opportunity Commission handles non-discrimination for most other employers.

Updated Equal Employment Opportunity Poster Required

The Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs or OFCCP has updated the “Equal Employment Opportunity is The Lawposter required for nearly every employer in the US.

 

What are the major differences between the new poster and the older version? There are several. But the most important difference is that the EEOC and the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs will no longer accept the old version of the poster. Having an old version posted is the same as having no poster on display, to these federal regulatory agencies. So each employer should update his or her poster immediately.

The federal Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs recently updated its regulations regarding veterans. In addition, the agency has created new posting regulations for all employers under the JVA.

 

The new regulations are a result of the JVA, the Jobs for Veterans Act of 2002, which amended section 4212 of the Vietnam Era Veterans’ Readjustment Assistance Act of 1994 or VEVRAA.

Free July Seminars on Updated Federal Laws

 The U. S. Department of Labor is sponsoring a series of free seminars on updated labor laws for employers in July 2008.

 

The Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) of the U.S. Department of Labor provides training to federal supply and service contractors and subcontractors. Topics covered include the agency’s equal employment opportunity laws and regulations. Federal contractors are subject to more stringent anti-discrimination regulations than other employers. In many cases, those regulations apply to all divisions of a company, not just those holding federal contracts. Most of the seminars are scheduled for a half day.

 

The Department of Labor takes a proactive approach in training employers, especially those with new federal contracts, in the requirements they face under the law.
